Welcome, Class of 2025!

We are excited to introduce the 14th cohort of internationally educated physical therapists (IEPTs) to the Bridging Program in the Department of Physical Therapy at the University of Toronto. This year’s cohort brings together physiotherapists from Brazil, France, India, Nigeria, Philippines, and South Korea, each sharing their wealth of knowledge and expertise from around the world. Together, they are committed to learning the essential skills required to practice physiotherapy in Ontario and across Canada.

The program began in September with an in-person residency week, where the class was welcomed by Associate OIEPB Director, Martine Quesnel and Interim PT Chair, Dr. Sara Guilcher. They participated in orientation and icebreaker activities to become familiar with all aspects of the Bridging Program. They had the opportunity to meet faculty, staff, clinician volunteers, alumni, and their mentors. They toured the Rehabilitation Sciences Building and enjoyed lunches together. Throughout the week, clinical labs were held to provide a safe and supportive environment for refreshing their practical skills.

In addition, the class met representatives from key professional organizations, including the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators, the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario, and the Ontario and Canadian Physiotherapy Associations. They were welcomed into the physiotherapy community by each organization and learned more about how they will be supported in their journey to practice.

By the end of the residency week, the group had formed close bonds, and an election was held for Class President. Gahoi Kim was elected as President of the Class of 2025 and Oyin Bello was named as the Vice-President. Congratulations, Gahoi and Oyin!

With the start of Term 1, the class is now focused on strengthening their foundational knowledge in cardiorespiratory, neuromusculoskeletal, and neurological physiotherapy. They meet twice a week for online sessions and continue to gather in person for clinical labs.
